What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit

Your new patient consultation will help you understand what’s going on with your body and help you to make an informed decision about your health!

We’ll provide you with a full assessment of your case to determine if chiropractic can help you, or not.

Your new patient consultation includes your first treatment as well! (many other clinics charge separately for this, but we don’t).

You’ll receive an examination that may pick up scoliosis or other postural problems.

You’ll receive our best recommendations from highly experienced practitioners.

If required, we may refer out for x-ray imaging.

You’ll leave your first visit with a better understanding of your body, your condition, and the options available to help you move and feel better.

What happens when you arrive

When you arrive at Sydney Spinal Care for the first time, you’ll be greeted by one of our friendly chiropractic assistants. You’ll complete a short form so we can get your details and history of your condition. This will help the chiropractor help you. You may be asked to present your health fund card, so bring this with you.

After this, you’ll be taken into one of our consultation rooms where you’ll meet your chiropractor. Your case, including a thorough health and injury history, will be discussed. Following this, you’ll proceed into one of the treatment rooms and a detailed assessment will be performed.

How long is the first chiropractic appointment?

Your first visit will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes. This allows time for history taking, assessment, discussion of findings, and your first treatment.

What does a chiropractor do on the first visit?

Your new patient consultation will take you through a detailed process to understand your condition. It will include taking a complete health history, a postural and spinal examination, as well as muscle testing, orthopaedic, and neurological testing. A gait analysis will also be checked. Your posture and spinal examination may identify muscle imbalances around the spine.

After we have identified the specific cause responsible for your problem we can help you restore your health naturally with safe and gentle chiropractic care. At home exercise programs may also be provided for you to perform between visits to further your improvement.

If chiropractic care is appropriate for you, your first adjustment may be given on the same day.

What should you expect?

As a new patient, we understand that there may be a lot of information to process! You may learn some fascinating new facts about your body. We can probably also tell you why you’ve been experiencing your symptoms and how we’ll work to address them.

You should also expect to experience a warm and welcoming visit to our office. We run an honest and ethical practice. All recommendations of care are in your best interest and all recommendations are based on what you need to gain to restore your health.

Your first adjustment

You may also receive your first adjustment on this day. You may find your chiropractic adjustment to be an amazing experience. We utilise modern, gentle procedures that maximise your comfort while addressing the underlying cause of your complaint. Your first chiropractic adjustment may just be the start of your new journey to better health, and we’ll be with you every step of the way!

What should I wear to my first chiropractic visit?

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement. You may be asked to remove belts, heavy jewellery, or thick layers for your assessment.

Can I use my health fund for chiropractic treatment?

Yes. We accept most major private health funds, and you can make instant claims on the spot through our HICAPS terminal. Check with your fund to confirm your level of chiropractic cover.

What happens after the first visit? Your Report of Findings.

Report of Findings (RoF)

At your follow-up visit, your chiropractor will provide a Report of Findings, which outlines:

What was found during your examination
The likely cause of your symptoms
How chiropractic care may help
Your recommended care plan, including visit frequency and duration
Lifestyle, ergonomic, or exercise recommendations to support recovery
