Does health insurance cover chiropractic treatment?

Yes, chiropractic may be included as part of your health insurance plan. Please check with your health insurance provider on your level of cover.

The amount you can claim and the number of visits that your plan covers depends on your level of cover.

Note: it is not essential to have health insurance to see a chiropractor. Many patients have elected not to have health insurance and are actively under care in our clinic.

    What is HICAPS

HICAPS stands for Health Industry Claims and Payments Service. It is an electronic health claims system that allows health fund members to claim on the spot in our clinic. You can benefit by receiving instant, same day rebates.

Do I need a referral from my GP to see a chiropractor?

No, you do not need a referral from your GP or medical clinic to see a chiropractor. That’s because chiropractors in Australia are primary contact, primary healthcare practitioners.

This means that no form or prerequisite is required for you to visit our clinic. However, we do accept referrals from The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and allied health Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plans. These are detailed in the next section.

Chronic Disease Management (formerly Enhanced Primary Care or EPC) — GP services

An initiative through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) allows GPs to refer patients to allied healthcare practitioners (like chiropractors) as part of a Chronic Disease Management Plan.

Eligible patients can receive up to x5 visits to a chiropractor, per year, through this program. You can claim these in our clinic.

    Chronic Health Complaints

Chronic health complaints that may be addressed by chiropractic include a range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

    • Back pain
    • Headaches
    • Neck and shoulder pain
    • Joint pain (knees, hips and more)
    • Other aches and pains

Often these cases are addressed in a multidisciplinary way. Please refer to your GP on eligibility for chronic disease management or call our clinic for more information.
